Where did Frankie come from? How the creative process went?
The creation of this brand was a very fun process, both for me and for the client, because we were in contact throughout the process, and thanks to their feedback the final design faithfully reflects their intentions.
It all started with a good name: FRANKENSTEIN, which perfectly defines the client itself, a very varied, young and lively group of boisterous and very amusing musicians.
They asked me to make a design with they can identify themselves, they wanted to see the most classic image of the monster (the most recognizable), but with a touch of youth and confidence. With this in mind, I went straight to see the posters of the monster’s films of the early XX century and surprisingly, I discovered that there is endless merchandising of our beloved protagonist: dolls, costumes, cups ...
I gathered my courage and dived in that enormous sea of ideas, seeking to make this xaranga special. I drew a thousand ideas, sketches and tried several colour palettes, until I came up with the idea.
It would be recognizable, yes: His face, strengthened by the typography. He would be serious yes, he is a monster after all, but sexy, attractive, somewhat roguish. Between light and shadow, two complementary colours (or almost), and keeping it simple, effortless duplicable, but with impact.
Thus the terrifying great Xaranga Frankenstein was born.
